Rostock authorities said on Tuesday that after the burial in Wiethagen, the funeral celebration had gone to a dining establishment for coffee and cake, as is popular in Germany. But after consuming the cake, 13 individuals experienced queasiness and lightheadedness and needed medical treatment.

An authorities examination revealed that the restaurant employee in charge of the cakes had asked her 18-year-old child to bake them.

However, the mom accidentally took the wrong cake from the freezer to the funeral service. She took a hash cake that the teen had made for a different event.

Authorities said the 18-year-old was under investigation.

The incident occurred in August however was not made public earlier out of respect for the mourners.
